Vitosha Snowshoes Trekking Tour
Vitosha is a mountain in the outskirts of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. It is one of the tourist symbols of Sofia and the nearest site for skiing, trekking, walking or rock climbing. Vitosha has the outlines of an enormous dome. The mountain emerged as a result of volcanic activity and has been subsequently shaped by the slow folding of the granite rock layers and a series of gradual uplifts of the area. The territory of the mountain includes Vitosha nature park including the best known and most frequently visited parts. Vitosha is the oldest nature park on the Balkans since 1934. Cherni Vrah (“Black Peak”) is the highest point of the mountain at 2290 m and is one of 10 peaks of Vitosha over 2000 m in height.
Vitosha, a majestic mountain on the outskirts of Sofia, is not only a symbol of the Bulgarian capital but also the closest destination for skiing, trekking, and rock climbing. With its massive dome-like shape, the mountain was originally formed through volcanic activity and later sculpted by geological processes over time. Notably, Vitosha Nature Park, established in 1934, is the oldest nature park in the Balkans and encompasses the most popular and frequently visited areas. Among its impressive peaks, Cherni Vrah (“Black Peak”) stands as the highest at 2,290 meters, accompanied by nine other summits exceeding 2,000 meters. Ultimately, Vitosha’s accessibility, diverse landscapes, and rich history make it a favorite retreat for both nature lovers and adventure seekers.
