Your 8 -9 days tour around Romania and Bulgaria

Day 1

Our guide will meet you in your hotel lobby in Sofia and you will have a 2 hour drive to Bachkovo Monastery, where you will encounter Medieval history and art. In the afternoon you will take a 3-hour walking tour of Plovdiv, its old part, its Roman theater and stadium and its new part. You will enjoy beautiful baroque style 19th century houses, cobblestone streets, shopping streets and many more. In the evening you will check in at hotel Renaissance (upon availability) in Plovdiv right in the old part. Overnight in Plovdiv.

Day 2:

Today you and your guide will head up north to Veliko Turnovo, Bulgarian medieval capital and impressive fortress. On your way you will stop at the following top attractions in Bulgaria: Kazanlak Thracian Tomb, Shipka Memorial church and Etara open air museum. Overnight in beautiful hotel Gurko (upon availability) in Veliko Tarnovo, overlooking the city and Assen Dynasty monument. Distance for the day: 180km. Overnight in Veliko Tarnovo.

Day 3:

Today we have all our day to spend in the fortress, the town and nearby village of Arbanassi. You will climb the hill Tsarevets and you will see why this fortress was so difficult to conquer in the Medieval period. In Arbanassi you will enjoy amazing church frescoes and a view over the city of Veliko Tarnovo. An unforgettable performance called Sound and Light over the fortress is optional upon availability. Overnight in the same hotel in Veliko Tarnovo.

Day 4:

On our fourth day we will reach the Danube river (a border river between Bulgaria and Romania) and we will not miss the unique Ivanovo rock monasteries (UNESCO World Heritage Site). We will spend the rest of the day in Ruse and we will enjoy its Paris-style architecture and city center. Distance for the day: 110 km. Overnight in Ruse.

Day 5:

In the morning we head North to the Carpathian mountains in Transylvania. In the summer season this trip is on Transfagarasan Road which is a scenic high-altitude mountain pass. On the way we will visit the Monastery of Curtea de Argia and the medieval city of Sibiu (European Cultural Capital of 2007). Distance for the day: 280km. Overnight in Sibiu.

Day 6:

Today we will visit the famous Vlad Tepes's palace in Sighisoara (UNESCO World Heritage Citadel). The afternoon we will spend in picturesque Brasov and the villages around it. We will see its medieval part with the Black Tower, the Black Church and the Town Hall. Overnight in Brasov.

Day 7:

Bran Castle is our first visit this morning, or more famous for being Dracula's Castle. Then we will continue to Sinaia, the most famous Carpathian resort with its Peles Castle (home of Romanian Royal family). Our last visit for today is Sinaia Monastery, full of history and religious objects, before we set back to Bucharest. Distance for the day: 180 km. Drop off at End of guide services. Our guide will drop you off in your hotel in Bucharest. This overnight is not included.

Day 8:

Explore the city of Bucharest on your own. Some of the highlights include: the Palace of Parliament, the second largest structure in the world, the Bucharest Arch de Triomphe, Royal Square, Press Square, Old town and of course places for shopping and relaxing.

Day 9:

Return to Sofia via Ruse (this option requires an extra payment of 140€ per group plus extra night in Bucharest for the guide). Distance for the day: 390 km.

During this wonderful 8 or 9 days tour of Romania Bulgaria you are going to see the best of both countries, including Sofia and Bucharest. You will have the options to start from Sofia, Bulgaria and return to Sofia, or to start from Sofia and end your tour in Bucharest (Romania).

A pick-up can be organised from Bucharest, Thessaloniki or other points. If you wish to start from Bucharest or other place different than Sofia, extra charges may apply.
