Plovdiv & Outdoor Thermal Complex (Group Tour)
Your day with Plovdiv and Mineral Spa group tour
Your day begins in central Sofia, where you meet your guide and board the comfortable vehicle for the journey to Plovdiv. The drive takes approximately two hours.
Plovdiv is one of Bulgaria’s most fascinating cities, with a history stretching back thousands of years. Known in ancient times as Philippopolis, the city has been shaped by Thracian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman cultures and is famous today for its beautifully preserved Old Town and unique combination of ancient and modern architecture.
On arrival, join a guided walking tour through the historic centre. Wander along the cobbled streets of the Old Town and discover its characteristic 18th- and 19th-century Revival houses. Along the way, see important landmarks including Nebet Tepe, the Church of St. Constantine and Helena, the Roman Theatre and the Ancient Stadium.
After the guided visit, enjoy approximately one hour of free time in central Plovdiv. This is your opportunity to have lunch at one of the local restaurants, enjoy a Bulgarian coffee or simply explore the lively pedestrian streets at your own pace.
From Plovdiv, continue towards the foothills of the Rhodope Mountains, where a relaxing mineral spa experience awaits.
Spend at least two hours at an outdoor thermal spa complex with a variety of warm and cooler mineral-water pools, jacuzzis and water attractions fro your children! Depending on the season, the mineral pools are ideal for warming up during the cooler months or cooling off during the summer.
There is also a restaurant and bar at the complex, where you can enjoy a drink or something to eat during your visit.
After your spa experience, relax on the journey back to Sofia. You will arrive back in central Sofia in the early evening, completing a day that combines some of Bulgaria’s most fascinating history with time to relax and recharge.

Plovdiv overview
Plovdiv is one of the oldest European towns contemporary to Troya and Mikena. It has existed as a settlement for 8000 years and became a town some 3000 years ago during the Troyan war. In 342 BC, it was conquered by Philip ІІ of Macedonia, the father of Alexander the Great, who renamed it Philippopolis or “the city of Philip” in his own honor. With the establishment of Bulgaria in 681, Philipopolis became an important border fortress of the Byzantine Empire.
In 1364 the Ottoman Turks seized Plovdiv and named the city Filibe which comes from “Philip”. In the historic heart of the city you will see beautifully decorated 19th century houses, the ancient fortress-wall, the Roman forum and stadium and magnificent churches. The city of Plovdiv with its museums, historical sites, ancient houses and paved streets is proudly the European Capital of Culture of 2019.
